Review of the Lego Skatepark 60290 Replica Set / Lari 60053

 

Hello brick fans!

I bought a bootlego replica of the Lego 60290 Skatepark set from Aliexpress and I'm here to tell you all about it today!

Here's the set details:

Numbered bags: Yes but they don't correspond to the building instructions.

Price paid: $13.91 CDN or about $10.24 USD

I ordered the Skatepark set from a store called China Iwonders Store on Aliexpress.  I've never seen this particular clone of the Lego Skatepark set 60290 on Aliexpress before, and the price of  about $14 CDN was fairly decent So I decided to take the plunge.

I bought the set on March 28 and it was immediately shipped, with subsequent delivery to my porch in a mere 11 days.

Here's the packaged building block set with the 16 page instruction booklet.

This sticker sheet was taped to one of the pages inside the manual.

I found four bags of parts and one of the newer baseplates.   The bags are numbered 1 thru 4 but I soon discovered that the parts of bag 1 did not correspond to the steps in the instruction manual.

Since there are only 217pcs in the set, I just opened up all of the parts bags and dumped them on the table.

Here's all of the minifigure parts I picked out from the pile.

And here all all of the printed pieces, consisting of 6 soda/pop can lids, a cell phone and several signs for the fictional product Vita Rush.

There are a total of 4 minifigures that come with the Skatepark set.  There's a female who looks to be the product marketing rep for Vita Rush, and a young lady with a purple skateboard and matching helmet.  The hair is part of the helmet and she doesn't get any extra hairpiece.  She does however have an alternate face.

The other two minifigures are male, with the younger lad riding a bmx style bike and the older guy in a wheelchair.  Both minifigs are wearing bike helmets and they don't have any additional hairpieces either.

Accessories for the Skatepark set include this baseplate and some ramp pieces.  It's up to you how you want to arrange the equipment on the baseplate.

More ramps and guard rails to keep the atheletes busy.

This offroad vehicle is included in the set and it's probably used by the marketing rep to travel to all of the different events.  There are a couple of pylons with flags to promote the Vita Rush product.  Also included in the set is a small palm tree.

Regarding the quality of the bricks, I found them to be overly plasticy with that feeling that maybe Lari cheaped out on the type of plastic used to mold this set, and their clutch was a bit tighter than I would have liked.   It's an easy set to build for the younger crowd but I think they will have fun  creating new adventures in the skatepark.

I was going to add a link to the store on Aliexpress, but unfortunately, it looks like all of the products in the store have been removed.   A search for this copycat Skatepark in the Building blocks section of Aliexpress only yielded this result, which looks like customized version of the newer Lego 60364 Skatepark set.

Chaobao Renren 5632 Garbage Transfer Truck (Lego Knockoff) Review

Hi all, welcome back to It's Not Lego, it's time for another not Lego review.  This time we are seeing a knockoff set that more or less copies the Lego Garbage Truck set 4432 that was released in 2012 and retired in 2013.  There are certain elements that are different, so let's take a look at the pictures and compare.

The set we are building and reviewing today is by an obscure Chinese brand called Chaobao Renren.  I searched brick4.com and found that they have made 11 building block sets of which 4 are their original design.  The other sets are copies of Lego or MOC sets.

The Chaobao Renren Garbage Transfer Truck, as it is called, has different minifigures and accessories that the Lego version.  It has 369 pieces whereas the Lego version has 208 pieces, that's almost a third more pieces, how could that be? Let's take a closer look!

My set arrived in the typical white plastic shipping bag.  Here is the set unbagged.

You get this large sticker sheet with the garbage truck set.  Have you figured out what those extra brick pieces are? 

This set consists of 8 un-numbered bags of parts.  Comes with an orange brick separator and two minifigures.

The minifigures are two garbage collectors and they come completely un-assembled. 

Note, that these figures are completely different than the Lego garbage guy and girl pictured above.  The Chaobao set comes with two shovels instead of one shovel and one broom.

Since the bags are un-numbered, I'm just gonna rip all the bags open and start building.

Brick clutch and quality was pretty good. Although the transparent pieces weren't packaged separately, they weren't too badly scratched or scuffed.

This set is an easy build and doesn't take too long to finish.  I think anyone over 6 years old could handle building this set, although they probably would need some adult help to assemble the minifigures.

Functionally, the Chaobao garbage truck has all the same features as the Lego version, I'd imagine.

Lots of play value here.

Turning the wheel will raise the platform and empty the garbage bin.

The original Lego 4432 set comes with two trash cans and some fish for garbage.  In the Chaobao set, it comes with a recycling station, which we also saw in my review of the Sluban M38-B0780 Garbage Truck set.  

So instead of garbage, we get 80 1x2 pieces of tile parts to which we affix the stickers.  There are 20 pieces of red, green, gray and blue tiles, respectively.  Each colour coded piece is supposed to teach kids about what can or cannot be recycled.   For this set, I chose not to apply any of the stickers just yet, maybe later.  Anyways, once applied, the tiles are supposed to be sorted into the proper coloured bins, just like the Sluban set.

The Chaobao Renren Garbage Truck is now my fourth Garbage/Recycling truck in my building block collection.  The others are:  

• Mochimaster MOC garbage truck
• Enlighten 1111 Garbage Truck
• Sluban M38-780 Recycling Truck

Note that this set seems to be very hard to find on the internet.  There's not many on-line retailers carrying this and I only found this store on Aliexpress  that has it.  The price paid is probably a little higher than normal for a bootLego set, but I went ahead and bought it anyways for the rarity of it.  

It's still a lot cheaper than if you try to buy the now discontinued Lego 4432 Garbage Truck.  A used set will probably cost you $50 and a new set will probably cost over $100 USD.  

Not Lego GM Ultralite MOC-42421 (designed by Rolling Bricks)

Hey All!  I found this interesting little model on Aliexpress a few weeks ago. Thanks to Reddit user th3st0rmtr00p3r for helping me identify this vehicle as the GM Ultralite featured in the movie Demolition Man.  This not Lego vehicle was designed by Rollingbricks, whose instructions can be found on Rebrickable as MOC-42421.

I'd say that this car is about the same size as Speed Champion models based on the tire size.

The car is six studs wide but the windshield is only 4 studs wide.  The front appearance looks like one of those self driving electric vehicles.

Very interesting concept to have this wrap around back panel that hides the rear wheels.

If I could, I'd replace the red light with a trans-red piece for the taillights.

One of the cool features of this model is the swing up gull wing doors on both sides.

Interesting blue light on the roof, is it some kind of Lidar?

I kind of wish the door design used clear windows instead of these black and trans-black bricks.

According to the designer, this vehicle can fit two minifigures inside it.

The instructions from Aliexpress for this model were on 2 sheets of paper which looked like it had been photocopied.  The model number on the instructions is M1721.

I tried searching for Speed Champions but could only find one store on Aliexpress that has this model, so it will probably disappear soon.
