In the past few years, there has been an explosion of new building block brands that are fighting to compete with Lego, the most well known building block brand. In the past, there were only a few competitors and their quality was very lacking. Some of the earliest alternative building block brands were Bela, Kazi, Enlighten, Wange, Sheng Yuan and Decool.
While some brands had original designs such as Sluban and Ausini, there were others that copied Lego designs, most notably Bela and Lepin. When I first started this blog, the terms fake lego, bootlego, copycat Lego, Lego knockoffs were all used to describe alternative building block brands.
Nowadays, there is a lot less copying of Lego designs and more of the new brands are establishing their own Intellectual Property. Some building block brands have now even entered into contracts with well known designers, so we can describe the new building block brands as Lego compatible or Lego alternative.
That being said, you can still find many of the Lego sets being copied on Aliexpress, but those sets will not have any brand identity to avoid copyright infringements.
Over the years, I have collected many sets and have listed them by brand on the pages below. Some are older brands and some are the latest brands.
Here are some new brands I have. Most of their sets have their own original designs and are not copies of Lego sets.
Cada
Funwhole
Happy Build
Jack
Jiestar
Juhang
Keeppley
Leji
King
Mork
Pantasy
Qunlong
Toptoy
Urge
XingBao
Zhe Gao
Mould King is also a very popular new brand of bricks but I don't have any of their sets in my collection.
And here are the older more established brands, all are still around except Lepin. You can still find copies of Lego sets under the Bela brand. Sheng Yuan used to copy Lego designs as well but they have since renamed to Sembo and all of their sets are their own designs.
Ausini
Gudi
Hsanhe
This is the most exhaustive, definitive list of compatible bricks I've found. Thank you!
